London Festivals You Can't Miss in 2014

This is an article dedicated to those who plan to take part in one or several interesting festivals that London has to offer in 2014. If you made it your New Year's(TM)s resolution, thought it through for some time or simply decided to be spontaneous, you have plenty of options to choose from. They are all sorted out by month, being much easier for you to fill out your free time agenda in a more organized way.

January has a good start with the London International Mime Festival 2014 (8 Jan - 1 Feb 2014, at the Royal Opera House, London), which brings you twenty-five days of innovative representations of contemporary visual theatre from France (Compagnie Philippe Genty, etc.), the Czech Republic (Spitfire Company), Holland (Jakop Ahlbom & Alamo Race Track), Italy (Citta Di Ebla) and the UK (Mat Ricardo, etc.). Loco London Film Festival 2014 (23-26 January, at BFI Southbank and selected cinemas) is UK's only international comedy film festival, organized by the LOCO foundation, whose mission is to develop, discover and show the most interesting comedy film-makers in the world. The submissions are now closed and the Programme should appear by the end of November.
Other interesting events planned for January: London Fetish Fair, International Festival of Playwriting and Performance, Crouch End Festival Chorus and Festival of Publishing.
In February, you can attend the BFI Future Film Festival 2014
(Festival Office BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, SE1 8XT, London), an event dedicated to those who want to improve their film knowledge and cinematographic talent through workshops, networking and also by submitting their own animated, short or documentary films into the competition. Battersea Beer Festival 2014 (5 Feb - 7 Feb 2014, the 24th Edition, at the Grand Hall, BAC, Lavender Hill, London, SW11 5TN) is a great place to enjoy a large variety of beers, brought by brewers from all over the world. Its main characteristic is that it does not allow live bands or recorded music, so that you can talk freely with your mates and just enjoy a good pint.
Other interesting events planned for February: London Tropical Vibes, Imagine Children's Festival, Richmond-Upon-Thames Performing Arts Festival.
March brings you the London Drinker Beer and Cider Festival 2014 (12 - 14 March 2014, at Camden Centre, Bidborough Street, London WC1H 9AU), represented by a logo of London's double decker bus. The list with the expected beers (UK and imported) and ciders is always posted on the official website, so that you can plan in advance this tasteful adventure. London Lesbian And Gay Film Festival 2014 (20 - 30 March 2014, at Festival Office BFI Southbank, Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XT) is perfect for those who want to submit a film and support the gay and lesbian community. The festival reached its 27th edition this year and it became one of the most recognized voices in the cinematographic industry.
Other interesting events planned for March: London Handel Festival, Flamenco Festival London, London Australian Film Festival.
With April comes The London International Ska Festival 2014 (17 - 20 April 2014, at The Clapham Grand, 21-25 St John's Hill, London, SW11 1TT), with a list of very appreciated and talented bands and DJs like: Derrick Morgan, Roddy Radiation & The Skabilly, Rebelation, Dirty revolution (from Wales), The Bionic Rats (from Ireland), etc. London Book Fair 2014 (8 âEUR" 10 April 2014, at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, Warwick Rd, London, SW5 9TA, 43rd edition) is a beloved festival that allows passionate readers to purchase books for every pocket. Besides this, you can also take part to seminars, events and exhibits that will make your week fantastic.
In May, you can choose so far between two important festivals: British Independent Film Festival (that appeared in created in 1998, with the goal of celebrating achievement in independent British cinematography) and Field Day Music Festival (a single day festival that takes place each year in Victoria Park, London Borough of Tower Hamlets).
June presents The City of London Festival 2014 (St Paul's Cathedral, London EC4M 8AD) with a mix of cultural events, ranging from music and film to networking. The festival was inaugurated in 1962 and it lasts three weeks. Greenwich And Docklands International Festival 2014 (20 - 28 June 2014) celebrates the outdoor performing arts (including street theatre and dance) through a multitude of cultural events throughout East and South London.
Other interesting events planned for June: Spitalfields Music Summer Festival, Crystal Palace Overground Festival and Polo In The Park.
July transforms the summer into a delicious season with The Taste of London 2014 (19 - 22 June 2014, Regent's Park, Chester Rd, London NW1 4NR). There are four days in which you can enjoy more than 40 menus and 200 food and beverage brands from all over the world. Streatham Festival 2014 (10 - 13 July 2014, 13th Edition) is an art festival that encouraged local talents.
Other interesting events planned for July: Wireless Festival, London Indian Film Festival, Lovebox Festival, Field Day Festival and Hop Farm Festival.
August is the month of entertaining. Standon Calling Festival 2014 (1 - 3 August 2014) started as a small gathering of 25 friends. Nowadays, thousands of people go and listen to live music and bands like Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine and Bastille. Carnaval Del Pueblo 2014 (4 August 2014) celebrates the Latin American culture since the year 1999. You can enjoy live music, exotic dances and plenty of color and joy of life. The Big Feastival 2014 (30 - 31 Aug 2014) is the creation of Jamie Oliver and Alex James. It is perfect for food and entertainment lovers of all ages.
Other interesting events planned for August: Get Loaded in the Park, Great British Beer Festival, Eastern Electrics, Lollibop Festival and Sw4.
September brings autumn and The International London Tattoo Convention 2014 (26 - 28 Sept 2014, 10th edition, at Tobacco Dock, 50 Porters Walk, London E1W 2SF). You can meet over 300 tattoo artists and see special on stage performances. London Design Festival 2014 (13 - 21 Sept 2014) is held annually in honor of the creative side of London. There are more than 300 exhibitions of the newest design trends from all over the world.
Other interesting events planned for September: Brick Lane Curry Festival, Greenwich Comedy Festival and Greenwich Riverfront Jazz Festival.
In October you can participate at The Raindance Film Festival 2014 (24 Sept - 5 Oct 2014, at the Vue Cinema Piccadilly Circus, 19 Regent St, London SW1Y 4LR). It is a great start for filmmakers and the place to watch wonderful premiers and meet great actors and directors. You can also take part at the Bfi London Film Festival.

November seems so far a chilly month when it comes to mass events. The London Jazz Festival 2014 (14 - 23 Nov 2014) is known as one of the best festivals in the jazz industry. So far the list with the 2014 musical guests includes the following artists: Ahmad Jamal, Chick Corea, Snarky Puppy, Pat Metheny, Tord Gustavsen and Robert Glasper, so stay tuned on their website for updates.
